R Kelly Tour Enjoys Dramatic Moulin Rouge, Custom Designed Concert Draperies From Drapery Providers Rent What? Inc and Sew What? Inc

R Kelly will perform in front of a dramatic re-creation of the original Moulin Rouge stage drape. This elaborately detailed drape is just one of the many unique stage drapery pieces available thru concert drapery rental provider Rent What? Inc. This unusual drapery element was painstakingly reproduced by Sew What? Inc, a leading theatrical drapery manufacturer in the USA

When audiences come to see R Kelly perform they will first see a dramatic re-creation of the original Moulin Rouge stage drape. Painstakingly reproduced by Sew What? Inc, this elaborately detailed drape is just one of the many unique stage drapery pieces available thru drape rental company Rent What? Inc.

This custom drapery element, made famous by the French cabaret of the same name, is the key component in a dramatic staging design for artist R Kelly. Robert Sylvester Kelly (born January 8, 1967) is an innovative and talented American R&B and soul singer-songwriter and record producer. Debuting in 1992 with the group Public Announcement, Kelly launched his stellar solo career in 1993.

The challenge was to recreate a classic drapery design with graphics, ribbons and trim for drapery into a tour friendly drapery scene that would survive the rigors of the road.

Dramatically blending modern technology and traditional elements made this a unique drapery piece. "We experimented with a number of fabrication techniques," said Sew What? President Megan Duckett. "We considered custom painting the decorative image elements, but we really wanted to work in a way that utilized our 120" Vutek printer.

We chose John Rios of Grafix Jam to re-create the art digitally as a vector file and ordered the best bullion trim money could buy - this had to be nothing less than spectacular!"

The Sew What? design team settled on printing directly to 60" wide 15oz. IFR crimson red velour. Direct printing onto colored textiles requires very difficult color profiling. In a unique process the printer first floods a layer of white pigment based ink before immediately laying the color corrected image onto the base.

During rehearsals in Illinois, the client reported that the drape was "magical". Rent What? Inc. Founder Marce Forrester noted "Unique and specialty scenic elements are frequently overlooked in our business in lieu of the more manageable "mundane". We are delighted to represent magical and unusual products despite the added challenges that they present to a rental house. It is imperative that our specialty rental draperies are as memorable as our service."

"There is no such thing as hunting through a catalog when you do something like this," commented Megan Duckett of Sew What? Inc. - the company responsible for manufacturing this 1800 square foot drapery project for Rent What? Inc. "It was really quite a challenging R&D project, but we did what we needed to do to make the drapes absolutely amazing."

The R Kelly concert opens in Mashantucket, CT in early October 2009 and tours the country through the end of the year.

Rent What? Inc. Provides a Customized Stage Backdrop Rental Package for Legendary American Rock Band Journey

Journey concert tour designer Kevin Christopher and tour manager Rob Kern approached Rent What? Inc., with a unique mixed media stage backdrop concept and a challenge: "We are going to do a lot of shows and want to 'wow' the audience every night. The stage backdrop needs to suit the band's energy and live up to the wear and tear of a multi-city concert tour."

Heralded as one of the best American rock bands in history, Journey formed in 1973 in San Francisco with former members of Santana. Journey has sold more than 47 million albums in the United States, making them the 28th best selling band ever.

Seeing this as a perfect opportunity to showcase their "tour ready" drape rentals and custom stage backdrop packages, Rent What? partners Marce Forrester and Megan Duckett rose to the challenge. Marce Forrester attributes the
company's "extreme service" as being one reason why the startup Drape Rental Company has taken the tour and event industry by storm. "With every transaction we ask ourselves - how could we make this easier for the end user? If we were on tour with the gear - what would our expectations be and how can we exceed them?"

"Our focus immediately turned to the Specialty Drape Industrial Texture Series" noted Duckett, "the durability of the product line and the dramatic effects that can be achieved with the mesh backdrop elements, fit the bill perfectly."

After the support act performs, a mid stage black kabuki backdrop is released by a series of solenoids, revealing the pre-set scene created just for Journey. The dramatic and flexible stage backdrop is achieved by utilizing a series of 6 crushed mesh drapery elements from Rent What?'s Industrial Texture Series. As the band travels from indoor venues with lower trims to outdoor venues with wider stages and higher trims, the 6 leg arrangement gives them the ability to close down the stage when needed.

Lighting designer Kevin Christopher used the silver crushed backdrop as a painter's palette, changing the scene dramatically with the use of LED floor and truss lighting. The crushed mesh drapery maintains a reflective quality, and gives just enough shine and lots of drama when saturated with color.

Rent What? Inc., is proud to have supplied such key elements of Journey's 2009 concert production. Being selected to provide backdrop product for one of the greatest American rock bands in history is no small challenge. "The management's confidence in our rental stage drapes and concert services was very flattering," stated Megan Duckett. "Our focus is on making it right and making it affordable. We are prepared to go to most any lengths to find that perfect formula."

A woman owned and operated business, Rent What? Inc is best known for an innovative approach to rental and production of concert tour drapes and has recently set the stage for artists including Beyonce, Nickelback and Demi Lovato. Rental contracts offer no cost travel hampers and pre-certified NYC certified draperies. Along with their large inventory of Inherently Flame Retardant stage drapes, traveler tracks and portable dressing rooms, they recommend an "Optional Damage Waiver" to help productions avoid any potential bill-backs on damages.

Jennifer Hudson Tour.

Set Design: Butch Allen
Lighting Design: Peter Morse

Rancho Dominguez, CA - Jennifer Hudson tour designer Butch Allen approached Rent What? Inc with a series of design concepts and a challenge – "This needs to look amazing, and we need to make this affordable for Jennifer's first US tour."

Jennifer Kate Hudson is an American singer, songwriter and actress who came to prominence in 2004 as one of the finalists on the third season of the FOX reality television series American Idol.

This was a fantastic opportunity for Rent What? partners Marce Forrester and Megan Duckett to showcase their "tour ready" rental draperies, and the company's eagerness to "customize to suit" on touring rentals.

"We aim to ultimately please both the designer and the artist" stated Megan Duckett, "Our focus is on making it right and making it affordable. We are prepared to go to most any lengths to find that perfect formula." Marce Forrester attributes the company's "Extreme Service" as being one reason why the startup Rental Softgoods company has taken the touring industry by storm.

The dynamic stage swags designed by Butch Allen were produced by Rent What? Inc and made their stage debut setting the scene for Jennifer Hudson. "Our concert draperies are all designed in Series. Jennifer Hudson's scene is from our Silver Satin Series – all the various elements, legs, swags, borders and Austrian drapes all play together in similar and complimentary colors and textures. "The Silver Satin Series has so many beautiful pieces," noted Duckett, "but I also find the edgy Industrial Textiles Series to be fascinating".

Butch Allen took the classic design even further – with a full bi-parting traveler track carrying a main stage curtain from Rent What? Inc. Despite being a concert, the show opened with a classic reveal – making it all the more elegant. The feeling of traditional theatre was very strong in the design.

Rent What? Inc is delighted to have been such a key element of this production. "Working with Butch Allen and Peter Morse is always a pleasure. From Butch's artistic renderings we went to work creating fabric art, and then sat back and watched while Peter turned our sewn palette into a Picasso!." Their confidence in our products and our interest in customization made this a perfect fit."

Rent What? Inc are best known for their innovative approach to touring concert draperies, offering no cost travel hampers, tour friendly traveler tracks and pre-certified NYC certified draperies. Along with their large inventory of Inherently Flame Retardant stage and masking drapes they offer and recommend an "Optional Damage Waiver" to help productions avoid bill-backs on damages.

The Return of the Spice Girls marks the group's first tour since 1999's Christmas in Spiceworld tour of the United Kingdom, and the first as the original five-piece group since May 1998.
